Berowra Demands a Fair Return on Gas

The Australian Government collects more in beer excise than it does in Petroleum Resources Rent Tax.

Multinational gas corporations are raking in billions of dollars a year from Australian resources, while charging everyday Aussies international prices for our own gas.

A  25% gas export tax would raise $17 billion every year. That’s over $350 million dollars a week. Imagine what that could mean for our communities – cheaper childcare, better healthcare, and real cost-of-living relief.

A 25% tax on gas export revenue is modest, fair, and long overdue. It won't deter investment or push up energy prices for Australians – what it will do is ensure this finite, publicly-owned resource finally delivers a fair return to the people who own it.

We, the undersigned, call on Mr Julian Leeser MP to publicly support the introduction of a 25% tax on gas export revenue, and to urge the Government to implement this measure without delay.

We urge Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to place Australian communities before corporate profits and demand multi nationals pay a fair price for our gas.
