Who are the people of Berowra?
- Gender: According to the last census, we are almost exactly evenly split between women and men. Just under ⅔ of us were born in Australia, which is pretty much on par with the rest of NSW.
- Languages: Across the electorate, ⅔ of us speak only English at home, but this varies very widely depending on which part of the electorate you live in.
- Birth country: The main places of origin of those who were not born in Australia are China, England, India, Hong Kong and South Korea.
- Education & housing: We’re highly educated and moderately wealthy, and we have significantly higher rates of home ownership/mortgages than the state and national averages. Unfortunately, it costs more to rent here than in many places in Australia.
- Health: On the upside, we are healthy, with lower rates of almost all the major diseases than the rest of NSW and Australia.
- Religion: When it comes to religion, the top description in the 2021 census was ‘No religion’ (34.4%). Of those professing a religion, the top religion was Catholic (21.9%); Anglican (13.5%) -- higher than the national average of 9.8% --; and Hinduism (4.7%), a little higher than both the NSW & national average.
