Introducing Tina Brown
The federal electorate of Berowra has our own community independent candidate: Tina Brown
Tina was unanimously endorsed by the Voices of Berowra Executive Committee, bringing to a close an extensive process during which our selection panel received expressions of interest from a number of potential candidates and conducted interviews.
Tina grew up in Lane Cove, was educated in Chatswood, and has been a resident of the Berowra electorate for many years. She is well known to many sectors of the electorate through her business networks and her support of local charities and not-for-profits, including the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter and Lifeline. She is passionate about issues that we know matter to many people in our community, including mental health, domestic violence, housing affordability, and caring for the elderly. She understands the urgency of the climate crisis and is concerned about the insufficient action from both major political parties. These are all issues that are being raised very frequently in the Voices of Berowra community listening survey.
From 2007-2020, Tina was the General Manager of Homestay Network, a business providing accommodation for international students. In 2020, as a response to the withdrawal of many local newspapers during COVID, she founded The Post – a monthly newspaper centred on the northern suburbs of Sydney. The Post celebrates and creates community, with good-news and community-centred stories from our area. In her role as General Manager of The Post, Tina developed relationships with many politicians, Council General Managers, mayors, and CEOs of charities and not-for-profits.
In recent years, Tina has also dedicated herself to promoting and supporting women in small business, through a number of coaching, mentoring and networking initiatives.
All these endeavours demonstrate Tina’s genuine and longstanding commitment to community and to our local area. The Voices of Berowra Executive admire Tina’s drive, her authentic commitment to the wellbeing of different groups, and her wealth of organic connections to the community. These will all be an asset to her campaign.
We thank Tina for the courage and drive she is showing in taking on what is indubitably a big and very public challenge, and we are delighted to stand beside her as she does so.
